Uniforms for unseasonably cold days in southern Vietnam
Uniforms for unseasonably cold days in southern Vietnam should be layered: breathable shirt, waistcoat or jacket, scarf. No need to remake the whole set.

When the weather turns unseasonably cold in southern Vietnam, the sensible approach for a company is to layer: keep the cool, breathable base uniform, add an outer layer such as a waistcoat or jacket, and bring in a scarf or coat for the groups that need it. Staff are not made to dress warmly all year in a region where heat is the norm, and the company does not have to remake its uniforms for a few cold spells. This guide sets out layering principles, options by staff group and how to add an outer layer.
Why a cold spell is awkward for southern uniforms
Uniforms in the south are usually chosen to beat the heat: lighter cloth, breathable weaves, short sleeves or blended cotton shirts. When a monsoon surge or a chilly early morning arrives, staff on motorbikes, outdoor posts or under strong air-conditioning feel underdressed. The cold lasts only a few days, and when the sun returns at midday the outer layer must come off easily. So the answer is not thicker shirts but a layer that can go on and come off.
Layering principles
- Keep the base layer: the shirt or polo worn daily stays as it is.
- Front-opening outer layer: a waistcoat, jacket or coat that buttons or zips at the front is easier to remove in the heat than a pullover.
- Moderate weight: too thick and staff overheat when the sun comes out; too thin and it is not warm enough. Try it on when the sample arrives.
- Same brand tones: the outer layer matches the base so the team still looks consistent even if only some wear it.
- Free movement: a waistcoat keeps the torso warm without restricting the arms, which suits people who work with their hands.

Options by staff group
| Group | Situation | Suggested extra layer |
|---|---|---|
| Office, reception | Cold air-conditioning, chilly mornings | Waistcoat or jacket over the shirt |
| Restaurants, hotels | Morning and evening service | Waistcoat in the base uniform's tone |
| Security, delivery, outdoor posts | Wind, rain, motorbike commutes | A windproof outer layer; style and price quoted at consultation |
| Technical, warehouse | Outdoor or open-air work | Long sleeves or an outer layer; request options at the design stage |

Fabrics and details
- Jackets and waistcoats: polyester-viscose with spandex holds its shape, stretches lightly and resists creasing; press on medium heat. You can ask for a heavier option at the design stage, and real swatches are shown for you to feel.
- Inner shirt: keep the cotton-polyester shirt already in use, breathable and durable in the wash.
- Details: a neat collar so a scarf sits without bunching, pockets deep enough for a phone, and logos placed where an outer layer will not cover them.
- Quick drying: on rainy days garments must dry fast, so keep a spare set for outdoor teams.
Cost and timing for an added layer
Mon Amie publishes starting prices for the common outer layers. Real prices depend on fabric, style and quantity.
| Item | From | Minimum quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Waistcoat | 600,000 VND | 5 |
| Women's business suits | 1,500,000 VND | 5 sets |
| Men's business suits | 3,000,000 VND | 5 sets |
| Accessories (scarves…) | 150,000 VND | 20 |
For an employee who already has a shirt and trousers, the extra layer could be a waistcoat from 600,000 VND or a scarf in the brand colour from 150,000 VND. A formal quotation comes with the proposal after the survey.
Because measurements are stored under employee IDs, an existing client can order an extra layer from the approved sample without people already measured being measured again, while new hires are measured individually and made to the approved sample. For a new client, Mon Amie measures each person at your office on your schedule, including outside office hours, as described on our on-site tailoring page. Allow 4–6 weeks after sample approval for measuring, making and delivery. Cold spells give little warning, so ordering early in the season is safer. The full path from survey to the free 3-year alteration warranty is our six-step process.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need thicker uniforms all year because of the occasional cold?
No. The south is warm almost all year, and thick uniforms make staff overheat. Keep a breathable base and add an outer layer for the cold days.
Which outer layer is easiest to add?
A waistcoat is neat and keeps the torso warm without restricting the arms. A jacket suits managers or groups who need a sharper look. Both can be ordered from the approved sample.
What is the minimum order for a waistcoat?
Waistcoats have a minimum of 5 pieces and men's and women's business suits a minimum of 5 sets; scarves and accessories 20. We explain how the minimums apply during consultation.
Can we add to an order we placed earlier?
Yes. Measurements of people already measured are stored under employee IDs, extra pieces are made to the approved sample, and new hires are measured individually. Alterations are covered free for 3 years at every showroom.
